GAME RECAP | 4/19 VS EL DORADO
Newport Harbor 14
El Dorado 5
Sailors One Step Closer with Win over Hawks
El Dorado stepped onto the field as the only team in the Century SE league with enough math on their side to overtake Newport Harbor for the outright league title. But Newport held strong, opening the game with a flurry of goals that forced the visiting Hawks to call a time out before five minutes had elapsed. From this auspicious beginning, the Sailors followed the lead of junior midfielder Sarah Farley, who finished the contest with four goals, to dominate and take home the 14-5 victory.
From the get-go, it was clear that the home team meant business. Junior captain Katie Hendrix opened scoring off a beautiful feed from senior captain Rylie Siegfried—who would exit the game just before halftime with a quad injury. Hendrix would book two goals, two assists, and four draw controls on the night. Junior Caitlin Dwyer followed with a slam dunk off a smooth crease roll; she also had an assist. And junior defender Jill Rosten got in on the action with the first goal of her varsity career off a drive from the restraining line. Farley heated up with three of the next four goals, and her teammates followed suit. Sophomore Adena Rothbard netted two and assisted one. Junior attacker Heather Roberts chimed in with a hat trick, and junior Corinne Reuter scored her first varsity goal after spending much of the season recovering from a partial ACL tear. With one more league victory, the Sailors can claim the Century SE title outright.
