Newport Harbor 5 – Esperanza 9

After falling to league rival NHHS earlier in the season, EHS came ready to defend their stadium. The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with the Aztecs scoring two late goals to enter halftime with a 6-3 lead. The Sailors were never able to gain a foothold in the second half, and Esperanza’s top attacker, Elly Mosher, led the way with four goals and an assist, as the Aztecs earned the 9-5 victory. Also for the Aztecs, midfielder Jane Clyde put three balls in the Sailor cage. For the visitors, Alex Palmer netted three goals.

JV
Newport Harbor 7 – Esperanza 4

The JV girls came out victorious at Esperanza High School by a score of 7-4 Tuesday evening With Santa Ana winds blowing and temperatures nearing 90 degrees, the girls had quite the workout. Sarah Farley and Colby Schmidlin each scored two goals with Jessica Woodruff, Corinne Reuter and Caitlin Dwyer each scoring as well. Nicole Newman had a an assist on one of Sarah Farley’s goals. Hannah Clark-Nixon was excellent on defense with four Ground Ball Controls and a Caused Turnover. Laura Tran, Emily Peschong and Sarah Farley all had strong games on defense. Sophia Martinez had another strong game in goal, allowing only four goals on 15 shots.
