Lax-a-Palooza JV Tournament Recap 05/03/14
The JV Team participated in the Lax-a-Palooza tournament at Laguna Hills this past weekend. Even with the heat, the team enjoyed the long day and played well.
Game 1 – Newport Harbor 5 – Mission 3
Newport opened game one of the tourney with a victory over Mission winning by a score of 5-3. Nicole Newman led the scoring for the Sailor Girls with two well placed goals. Sarah Farley, Sarah Spence and Hannah Clark-Nixon all found the goal as well to round out the scoring. Sarah Farley and Nicole Newman were good on defense collecting 8 ground balls between them. Hayden Allen and Sarah Spence had excellent games on defense with three and two caused turnovers respectively. Sophia Martinez was strong in goal allowing only 3 goals on 9 shots.
Game 2 – Newport Harbor 4 – El Toro 6
In their second match up the JV Squad lost to El Toro in a close game by the score of 6-4. Goal scoring was spread out among Carlye Lenk, Sarah Farley, Caitlin Dwyer and Sarah Spence. Defensively, Emily Peschong had another strong game as did Marissa Cislaw and Jordan Kaufman.
Game 3 – Newport Harbor 9 – Glendale 4
Glendale fell to Newport in Game 3 by a score of 9-4 as the Sailor Girls came out looking good from the start of the game. Heather Roberts and Colby Schmidlin led the scoring with two goals each. The remaining girls who found the back of the net were Laura Tran, Taylor Long, Sarah Farley, Caitlin Dwyer and Hannah Clark-Nixon. Sarah Farley and Laura Tran were strong on draw control. Hayden Allen and Oriana Rousseau both collected numerous ground balls. In goal, Sophia Martinez 6 saves on 10 shots.
Game 4 – Newport Harbor 4 – Laguna Hills 4 (Lost in Shoot Out)After a lengthy three hour wait to play Game 4, Newport lost a very competitive game to Laguna Hills after a shoot out. (2-1) Sarah Farley scored two goals with Nicole Newman and Hannah Clark-Nixon rounding out the scoring. Jessica Woodruff and Emily Peschong were strong on defense each causing turnovers and rattling the competition. Sophia Martinez allowed only 4 goals on 9 shots. The shoot out was won by Laguna Hills after they scored two goals to Newport’s one.
