The UCSB Shootout was an unequivocal success.

Game #2: Sailor Girls Select 6 – Mustangs 7
Defensively, SGS was outstanding up and down the field. On the ride, the attack and middies were relentless; on the defensive end, Sailors previewed a the new and improved D set: Senior captains Jenna Nulty and Cailynn Smethurst led the D to an impressive 61% save average against a very potent offense. Alex led the charge with two goals. There girls shot 100% with one goal on one shot: Brittany McCoy, Montana Mattox, Helena Davis, and Sammy Whitney. Sailors shot an astounding 66.7%. In the end, Mustangs were able to net a heartbreaking goal with about a minute remaining.

Game #3: Sailor Girls Select 12 – San Juan Hills 0
With a victory, SGS would earn a spot in the Sunday championship bracket. Montana led scoring with three goals, and Katie Hendrix followed with two goals. Daniela Vazquez contributed one goal and one assist. Freshman Darby O’Mahony and senior exchange student Birgit “B” Drevvatne ripped their first career rope on 100% shooting. Alex, Helena, Sammy, and Emily Lukosky each scored once. Kim walked off with a single-game high three assists. The defense limited San Juan to only four shots, and Cailynn saved 100%.

Sailor Girls Select earned a spot in the Sunday championship bracket with Pacific Falcons (San Diego), Aliso Attack (Aliso Niguel), and Mustangs (Trabuco).

Semi-final: Sailor Girls Select 2 – Pacific Falcons 8
Pacific Falcons are an elite club on the level of Team OC out of Orange County. Defense was outstanding, holding Pacific to only three goals in the first half; despite the fact that the ball was in the defensive end for ¾ of the time. Sailor Girls were never able to gain a foothold. Alex snagged three draw controls and continued her scoring streak with one goal, and defenseman Jordan Rausch netted a goal on a great individual effort.

Consolation Game: Sailor Girls Select 2 – Mustangs 3 (OT)
Sailor Girls played valiantly. The defense, led by Jenna and backed by Cailynn, was excellent again. Defensive specialists Katelyn Gallegos, Emily Peschong, Mia Bagiu, Jordan, and Montana played with guts and strength all weekend. Cailynn recorded an amazing 77% save average in this final game. Many of her saves were due to her command of the cage; and an equal number were due to the defenders’ unceasing effort. Rylie Siegfried proved to be not only a good ball handler, but also the Sailors most physical player. Mia scooped a single-game high three ground balls. Alex opened scoring with one goal; Brittany ripped a a free position shot to take the 2-1 lead in the second half. However, with just a few minutes left, the Mustangs were able to force overtime, and in the extra period, they were able to net the game-winner and snatch third place.

Sailor Girls Select ended up fourth of ten teams.
