Newport clinches D1 Playoff Spot

The Sailors came into the week needing 2 wins against two tough Sunset League Opponents, CDM and Los Al. On Tuesday, the team made the short journey over to East Bluff and built a 10-7 first half lead, with Olivia Gritzmacher leading the scoring with 8 goals to that point and Lucy Valdes making some big saves. Some halftime defensive adjustments propelled the team to shut out the Sea Queens the rest of the way and Newport came way victorious with a 13-7 victory.

On Thursday night, the team entered the opening faceoff without the services of some key players, due to injuries and other ailments. To add to that, after the first 8 mins of the contest, Newport was assessed with 4 yellow cards and had to compete player down basically the entire game. In what could go down as the grittiest ever victory for the Girl’s Program at Davidson Field, the Sailors dug deep and prevailed 13-11, to lock in on one of the two automatic qualification spots in Sunset League. The team will battle the League Title on Tuesday 5/18 against Edison.

Busy Week

The Sailors went up the 405 with hopes of capturing their second sunset league win in a row, after having defeated CDM in the first BOTB matchup. Unfortunately, a late surge by Los Al tied the game with 25 seconds remaining, which then helped propel the Griffins to a 11-10 win over the Sailors in OT.

Instead of getting down on themselves however, the Lady Lax’ers played their best game of the season so far, and edged their other cross town rival, the Edison Chargers, 13-12 on Thursday night. The hometown crowd was treated to an amazing back and forth game. Olivia Gritzmacher and Rowdy Farmer kept the Sailors close in the first half, and Lucy Valdes had a great game in cage, recording 10 saves.

What a week!!!!!!

Sailors Win 15-13

Newport Harbor came away with a narrow 2 goal win this morning as they edged out JSERRA 15-13. The Lions started strong in the first half by initially jumping out 3-0. The Sailors eventually settled down and scored 3 in a row before JSERRA answered back. Strong draw control by the Lions and goalscoring by their midfield, helped them to push ahead to an 11-10 lead with 10 minutes left. From that point on though, Newport would control the draw and the game, as they outscored JSERRA 5-2 the rest of the way, coming out on top 15-13.
